JULY 27-AUG 2, 2013

There is yet no suspect in the killing of the chief of the security guards protecting Davao del Norte Congressman Anthony del Rosario (1st District) but the police is pursuing “some theories” on the case.
Provincial police director Samuel Gadingan said before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in session the other Monday afternoon that so far police investigation led to “negative” in identifying the motorcycle-riding suspects who killed Froilan Maureal in earlier week while he was riding his motorcycle after he went into jogging inside the provincial sports center fronting the provincial Capitol.
PSSupt. Gadingan said that the suspects were wearing bonnets when they carried out their crime
“But (our efforts) did not stop there as we came up some theories which we are still pursuing,” he said, responding to the query of independent Board Member Dr. Fred De Veyra, chairman of the SP committee on human rights.
The provincial police chief added that investigators from Tagum City police office had already talked relatives of the victim and several people and conferred with Governor Rodolfo del Rosario and his son Cong. Anthony.
He did not divulge the police theories on the killing.
PSSupt. Gadingan also told the provincial board that they are on the thick of verifying information to close in on to the “most probable theory” which might lead to the arrest of the killers.
On the same session, he also bared that the provincial police has been actively making successful operations in the recent days in their campaign against illegal logging, illegal gambling and illegal drugs since he assumed office last July 2.
He said that fronton Last 2 gambling has been stopped in Tagum City even as he warned all his municipal and city chiefs of police that the interior department’s “one-strike policy” on illegal gambling is still effective and they better not be caught with it and be punished.
Several persons have been caught for illegal drugs while the police also seized two truckloads of lawaan hot lumbers.
He also appealed to the gun owners to renew their gun licences saying that only 98 of the more than 2,000 guns registered in the police department in the province were renewed of their licenses until press time.
The police chief apprised the SP on the peace and order situation of the province and on their police security plans and programs following invitation of the Vice Governor Victorio Suaybaguio Jr who sought for police officials’ presence in aid of legislation.
Fourteen chiefs of police and other police service officers attended the session. (Rural Urban News/Cha Monforte)
