COMMENTARY: Local exploitation of labor

april 23-29, 2012

With their raw, cheap labor the workers are toiling, working the hardest so that the capital would grow and multiply. Now observe how the big merchants in our towns and cities in Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley amass more than enough profits as seen in their high class living and lifestyles,  the elite education of their children, their posh cars, good food and all those oppulence and fat bank accounts. The super profits they have come from the capitalists’ exploitation of the cheap labor of their tinderas, salesgirls, salesboys, kargadors and how they continue to pay each of them with P80 to P150 daily only, without SSS and other benefits. Local capitalism thrives because of the exploitation of labor that is bought so nakedly cheap that cannot afford  to feed a family. Unfortunately, the local capitalists’ modus operandi is to exploit the singles of our unemployed youths who mostly come poor peasants’ families. On Labor Day, we should reflect on this particular bitter reality. (cha monforte)
