Boyet says he’ll cross the bridge when…

april 23-29, 2012

Oppositionist Tagum City Councilor Geterito “Boyet” Gementiza said in an interview Wednesday last week after the city council session that  he is not yet definite of his plan to run for city vice mayor.
“I’ll cross the bridge when I get there,” he said figuratively referring to a political option which he has to decide in due time.
Other report qouting the councilor’s father ex -Governor Gelacio “Yayong” Gementiza said though that the father preferred his son to run for vice mayor in tandem with senior City Councilor De Carlo “Oyo” Uy .
The ex-governor sounded off he wanted reconciliation with City Mayor Rey “Chiong Oy” Uy following years of political rivalry.
But things could not be favoring the ex-Gov’s wish as the last-termer city mayor had more than once said to this paper that it would be better that the young should be given their opportunity to lead the city than having the old politicians running its governance.
He shared that there is  a moment in once political career even those enjoying high accolade that their political star would later shine lesser after a peak has been reached.
It was a qoute stressing the youth and energy of young Tagum politicians like the mayor’s son Oyo who has been definite and preparing the grounds for his mayoralty bid since 2010.
Though the mayor has until press time no announcement yet as to his choice of who should be Oyo’s vice mayoral tandem but the name of last-termer City Councilor Mylene Baura is often heard in the rounds to be the most possible choice.
At one time, too, the mayor said Oyo, Mylene and (second-termer Councilor) Nickel have a “good chemistry” and should not be disturbed. The three have been known to be close friends.
However, new speculations are also up that the last-termer mayor might go in tandem with his son.
In the past the mayor hinted that he would not be doing ala Digong Duterte as to slide down running for vice mayor in tandem with his daughter now Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Earlier and for several times the mayor announced he would not be running for governor if Governor Rodolfo del Rosario would seek for reelection by 2013. “I’d better be enjoying as plain citizen planting trees,” he once said.  (cha monforte)
