“It’s payback time”

Citing that “it’s payback time”, Tagum City Mayor Rey “Chiong Oy” Uy has declared that he would actively support the bid of the barangay officials in the coming May 25 barangay election.

When asked on the mode of his support, the mayor said: “Definitely and it’s all-out support”.

“Mitabang man pod sila sa ako last election (They have supported me in the first place during the last May polls,.” he said.

He also said that his support should not be interpreted as being partisan as he blasted the concept of a non-partisan barangay polls as just “an alibi” and “a rider in law” made by congressmen who have the penchant of using barangay officials during election time.

It is ironical, the mayor added, that when it comes to the election of the barangay officials itself the congressmen who made the law on the non-partisanship of the barangay election wanted to restrain barangay officials from seeking support to higher officials.

“Why prevent us from helping the kapitan? Kalipay pod nato nga makatabang para sa ilang mga tarpaulin, poster…to think nga pila ra pod ang ilang sweldo,” he said.

Mayor Uy said that he would just be reciprocating for the active and strong support made by barangay captains and kagawads when he ran and won for his three terms as city mayor. (Rural Urban News/Cha Monforte)
