NEWS: Defection of Lakas Comval to Villar fizzles out

COMPOSTELA VALLEY- The reported defection of the only provincial party supporting administration candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr in Region XI fizzled out last week.

Maybe not yet, as unimpeachable sources said that, should Teodoro continues to trail behind afar in the surveys by mid April, Lakas-Kampi-CMD leaders led by Governor Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy and Vice Governor Ramil Gentugaya would have already the borderline to finally junk Teodoro and support instead Nacionalista Party standard bearer Manny Villar, whom the governor earlier described as “his personal friend”.

This developed as reports said that Davao del Norte District 2 political kingpin and former Congressman Antonio “Tonyboy” Floirendo Jr has also entertained junking Teodoro due to his poor survey ratings.

But in an interview, Governor Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy chose not to comment further after saying that his provincial aggrupation Uswag Comval is “still with Lakas-Kampi-CMD”.

Both the governor and vice governor are unopposed and their candidacy would not be affected by whatever national political repercussion their opting for another presidential candidate may generate in this election season.

Another source said that District 2 Congressman Rommel Amatong maintained to support Teodoro while last-termer Congressman Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora had the “wait-and-see position depending on the governor’s option”, although his daughter boardmember and District 1 congressional candidate Maria Carmen Zamora-Apsay and a few boardmembers and mayors would still root for Teodoro even if the governor and vice governor would defect to Villar.

Sources added that the governor was furious the other week over the verbal threat of Bebot Marfori, reported to be Teodoro’s behind-the-scene hatchet man in Davao City, “to expel Uy and Gentugaya from Lakas-Kampi-CMD” for their reported bid to junk Teodoro and support Villar which Marfori got wind of.

Earlier reports said that it was the same Marfori who initiated for the formation of a parallel organization composed of barangay captains which campaigns for Teodoro in the barangays without giving protocol and coordination first to the governor and municipal mayors. Some of those barangay captains tapped by Marfori happened to be with the opposition.

This as Teodoro had not yet downloaded any “initial campaign fund” to local Lakas-Kampi-CMD parties in the region, sources said.

But other sources said that Teodoro had already “left something to congressmen and mayors” after he guested middle of the province’s recent Bulawan festival celebration for its 12th founding anniversary.

Uy said in an earlier interview that Teodoro is his “personal friend” and was wary of Teodoro’s failing performance in surveys where at the recent Noynoy Aquino and Villar are racing neck-to-neck while Teodoro has remained to at the fourth place after consistent third-placer Erap Estrada.
