Davao del Norte Victorio “Baby” Suaybaguio Jr said that his friendship with the Floirendos will remain since he had established this relationship with them in the 80s.
In an interview over the weekend, the vice governor, who is running for reelection for his current post, reminisced the time when he was still serving as Tagum City mayor when the influential family in the province had been helping elected officials in steering the development of the province.
“Such benevolence of the Floirendos when Davao del Norte was still big has remained to be their hallmark that contributes to the continuing development of the province,” Suaybaguio said in tribute to the family, owner of the vast Tadeco banana plantation and firm.
“Until now I can talk with Dona Nenita and (former Congressman) Tonyboy (Floirendos)… our friendship will always be there,” Suaybaguio added.
Suaybaguio who partnered with unopposed reelectionist Governor Rodolfo del Rosario (Liberal Party) is rivaled by fellow Tagumenyo Boardmember Roger “Dangpanan” Israel (Lakas-Kampi-CMD), who has now no gubernatorial candidate in tandem when ex-Miss Universe Margie Moran, wife of Tonyboy Floirendo Jr, backed out from running against Gov. Del Rosario, her uncle by affinity.
Meanwhile, reports said that Gov. Del Rosario has already got wind of side comments castigating the leadership of the governor allegedly made by Israel in some of his barangay sorties.
Sources alleged that Israel has been making a show of declaring that his governor is still Del Rosario and that he is the vice gubernatorial choice of the Floirendos as part of the “exchange deal” when Moran backed out from running against Del Rosario, “fueling a fire to the reported family feud between the Floirendos and Del Rosarios that is reportedly now on the path to inevitable reconciliation.”
There was actually no “exchange deal” made by the Floirendos and Del Rosario but it was the angered opposition of Dona Nenita that her brother Gov. Del Rosario would be rivaled by one coming from the clan that caused for Moran’s backing out, sources said. (Cha Monforte/Rural Urban News)
