NEWS: Gibo says “underground Lakas” mere gossip, belittles surveys

Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential standard bearer Gilbert Teodoro said on Saturday that the reported “underground Lakas” was just “gossip that is being circulated around” by his political rivals.
“I don’t believe on that. It’s a gossip circulated by those insecure (of me),” he said in an interview after the breakfast meeting with the administration candidates in Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental held in Tagum City.
Teodoro commented on the report that there are Lakas-Kampi-CMD incumbent congressmen and governors, mostly the older ones, who are re-grouping to bolt in due time to support the presidential candidate who is leading in surveys, while mostly the younger ones were rooting for him to the finish as they are peers in age of Teodoro.
Teodoro said that he to the province on the occasion of the birthday of Davao del Norte District 2 Rep. Anton Lagdameo last Friday.
In the meeting he also belittled results of the latest surveys saying “ma Top 3 or not, papayag ako na kulelat sa survey, basta ako pa rin ang mananalo (I may or may not be the Top 3 in the survey, but I’ll still win (in the election)” to the applause of some 300 Lakas-Kampi-CMD candidates running in various posts in three provinces.
Among those present were Rep. Lagdameo and his wife actress Dawn Zulueta, Teodoro’s wife Tarlac Rep. Nikki Prieto, Davao del Norte District 1 Rep. Arrel Olano, Compostela Valley Rep. Rommel Amatong, Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat, and Davao Oriental Vice Governor Joel Almario.
Compostela Valley Governor Arturo Uy said in a text message that he was in Manila but had already met Teodoro on Friday, while Compostela Valley District 1 Rep. Manuel Zamora was not present as a souce said he was in also in Manila.
Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario and Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy were not present. The two defected November last year to Liberal Party to support its presidential candidate Noynoy Aquino, the consistent front runner in surveys.
Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon also defected late last year to Nacionalista Party to support its standard bearer Manny Villar, the Top 2 in the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey conducted December 27 to 28 last year. He accordingly cut Aquino’s lead by eight points- from 19 to 11 percentage points.
In that survey, Aquino got 44 percent while Villar got 33 percent, Both former president Joseph Estrada got 15 percent while Teodoro got only 5 percent. (Cha Monforte/Rural Urban News)
