Thank God, it’s Flyday

It’s Friday and the joke is this is also Flyday for among naughty government employees. At times, we see cars with red plates from Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley going south perhaps to Davao City during Fridays early afternoon leading for others to surmise that passengers are just squeezing out whatever hour is left for the working week in the name of public service.

But there’s also this observation that government offices are losing working souls, chief of them the department heads, every Friday, which is considered as the dullest day of the week due to the penchant of the public not to transact during Fridays when they could no longer see the signatories of papers anyway. To them, they better transact with their government during the first day, Monday of the week, as officials and employees are most energetic and ever-present after a restful weekend.

There’s grain of salt truth to this. Since department heads first fly to the moon during Fridays with their government-issued cars, fuera delos buenos, naughty lowly employees then follow their heads as time-cheat models. In the end, those only those who love their work remain in offices and wait for the 5:00 P.M. retreat.

We salute for those who remain til the last second of the working week, and woe for those who join in vanishing during Flydays. (Cha Monforte/Rural Urban News)
