25 mataderos sent by Cee O to Australia now millionaires

Oct 28-nov 3, 2010

11 mataderos more are flying

Tagum City Mayor Rey “Chiong Oy” Uy will be sending his second batch of eleven skilled, city-trained mataderos (butchers) for high-paying jobs in Australia early next year.

“The first batch of 25 mataderos are now millionaires,” reported the mayor in an interview.

The mataderos are trained cow butchers and are now ready with their papers for employment in four big sister companies in Queensland, Australia, each with a salary of about P8,600 per day for a maximum of 4 days in a week plus overtime pay or about P200,000 per month, bared the mayor who through his skills training program has already sent off the first batch of English-speaking-capable, trained, disciplined and industrious cow butchers last September 20.

The butchers’ job entails slaughtering a minimum of 1,000 head of cows per day.

Uy said that the companies are shouldering the cost of their airfare and as part of their job package they can take a vacation every six months and even bring along their families to Australia later on.

The butchers were first trained, required of health certification and necessary travel documents and passing mark of the English Language examination.

The Australian companies have earlier spotted the Tagum City government to be a preferred source of trained mataderos as it has good slaughtehouse as butchering training facility while the mayor was noted by company executives to have not asked for cuts in the butchers’ employment unlike in other local governments in two cities in the country where the firms previously sourced their needed butchers.

“The millionaire butchers are now asking me how they could pay back the city. They are ready to contribute their tax rebates for city development,” Mayor Uy proudly reported. (Rural Urban News/Cha Monforte)
