Welcome home Cong

aug 12

Davao del Norte First District Congressman Arrel Olaño is the first congressman in the Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley areas who arrived from Manila after President Arroyo made her State of the Nation’s Address (SONA) last July 28. As of last Thursday morning during Cong. Olaño’s press conference at Mankilam’s Bulwagan we had not known of any sizzle in the political tinseltown about the arrival of Cong. Anton Lagdameo of the 2nd District and the two congressmen in Comval- Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora of the 1st District and Rommel “Bobong” Amatong of the 2nd District.

We are gauging just how grave was the latest report or rumor about the health of Cong. Olaño, that he suffered a heart attack or so, that made him return to our district while the Congress is not yet in recess. (It’s the recess after all when often the constituents and ward leaders of our congressmen, not least the kapitans troop to a congressman’s residence or office for a begging fair; that’s what political friends are actually for).
Will we be taken for ride to this rumor that we have not actually heard so loudly? But at least the congressman, who is finishing his third term after the series, has shared to the public that his present career is going for lonely days and nights after 2010, that is, if he could not successfully crack a new post in his political target: city mayor or vice governor or boardmember.

Either of the last two is an easier stuff for a dare, but for city mayor? We see the last-termer congressman, fresh and so cool from the Congress after a flight from Manila, could have him sweating all it out in feverish duel or squabble against the present occupant and other wannabes from a divided economic-political kingpinship at this far.
