Influential former District 2 Congressman Antonio “Tonyboy” Floirendo Jr and Tagum City Mayor Rey “Chiong Oy” Uy have recently agreed to support each other and push that the barangay representative to Davao del Norte Sangguniang Panlalawigan would come from the District 2 while that of the Sangguniang Kabataan would be from District 1.
Mayor Uy disclosed this to the local media last Monday.
“It would be Vincent for the FABC (Federation of the Associations of Barangay Captains), while for the SK, he would come not from Tagum but from other areas in District 1,” the mayor said.
Vincent “Enting” Floirendo, the youngest Floirendo sibling, is currently running for barangay captain in Barangay Adecor in Talikod Island, Kaputian district of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).
Mayor Uy said that recently he had a talk with the former congressman and he agreed with the plan of Tonyboy for his younger brother Vincent to become the FABC president.”Sa ila na sa District 2 ang FABC representative, sa District 1 pod ang SK.”
He said that “it’s a simple request” of Tonyboy which he said he could not refuse knowing that the Floirendos have all been “helping in many elections” throughout the province in the past.
Going non-delineating as to which political fence he is at the backdrop of the political competition between the Floirendo and Del Rosario camps, the mayor said: “I can work with anybody like with (Governor) RDR, bisan kinsa pa… I’ve been seen to be just working with anybody” referring to either with the Floirendos or Del Rosarios.
He said that he heard that second-termer District 2 Congressman Anton Lagdameo would be placed by his uncle Tonyboy to go back to Floirendos’ Tadeco business empire after finishing his third term by 2016 while Vincent would first be “immersed in governance because that’s what public is all about” before he would succeed Lagdameo.
“Tonyboy will remain to be in business,” he added.
In the same interview, Mayor Uy also clarified that he did not meddle in the election of Philippine Councilors’ League representative last August saying, “it’s not my concern but the concern of the councilors” while the post belongs to the legislative’s domain. (Rural Urban News/Cha Monforte)
