Finally breaking up her penchant to have rare appearance with the local media since when she filed her certificate of candidacy, District 1 congressional aspirant Emily Alvarez said on Friday that she is really “determined to run” following hearing of issue about her that she was just running on face-saving make-believe posture rather than opt to withdraw from the race, which is a more laughable thing to do.
Emily Alvarez is the better half of former congressman and ex-DOTC secretary Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez. While then serving as a boardmember, she ran for Congress in 2007 but lost to now last-termer Arrel Olano causing her to disappear from political scene in the province.
Now she is squaring off with the governor’s son and former vice governor Anthony Rafael del Rosario, known of his public nick “AGR”.
Pundits said that she has been a long absentee in the district where she is running now as she is reportedly always spending her time in Manila .
But in an interview, she warded off the issues saying, “ang dapat pag-uusapan ay kung anong tulong ang naihatag mo sa katawhan (what should be talked about is what help one has given for the people of the district).
She said that out of her own personal initiative P30 million worth of development fund was poured to each of the water district in Kapalong and Asuncion towns.
She charged that AGR did not have this personal initiative in laying down projects that benefited people adding that if ever AGR had intervened for development he had only accessed development fund from the provincial government where his father is the governor.
“I know I can help people, sayang din naman ang connection ko,” she said adding that if she had not run then people would have no alternative to choose from besides AGR. (Cha Monforte/Rural Urban News)
