NEWS: Nogie for mayor, Rody for VM top in survey

By Cha Monforte

feb 5

Speaker Prospero Nograles and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte topped as candidates for mayor and vice mayor, respectively, in a survey reportedly commissioned by the Nograles himself.

In the survey conducted by Issues and Advocacy Center with Ed M. Malay as director, Nograles got an overall 45 percent while City Vice Mayor Sara Duterte got 40 percent, while 13 percent of the 700 respondents in the city’s three districts answered they did not know or refused to answer on the question, “Who would be their mayor if the election would be held today?”

In the consolidated survey report obtained by this paper yesterday, Mayor Duterte obtained 51 percent while Nograles running-mate former Mayor Benjamin de Guzman got 41 percent. Only six percent of the respondents replied they did not know or they refused to answer.

The survey used person-to-person interviews conducted at random of adult voters in sampled areas in the three districts with skip-interval of 4-5 houses in between calls.

The first district being the largest district in the city has 300 respondents while the second and third districts both have 200 respondents. The survey has a margin of error of between 3.5% + plus or minus to 5% plus or minus.

Results for Nograles showed that he has lead over Sara Duterte by 18 percent and 7 percent in first district and third district, respectively, while the latter has a lead of 10 percent in the second district.

Mayor Duterte has sizable leads in all three districts over De Guzman.

For the first district congressional candidates, Atty. Karlo Nograles pulled a wider margin of 27 percent over Councilor Maria Belen Acosta with them getting 49 percent and 22 percent, respectively.

For the second district, congressional candidate Mylene Garcia obtained 43 percent, while Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang and Councilor Diosdado Mahipus got 27 percent and 16 percent, respectively.

For the third district, congressional candidate Ruy Elias Lopez topped getting 43 percent, while reelectionist Congressman Isidro Ungab got 32 percent.

For the presidential race, Noynoy Aquino topped with his 37 percent followed by Manny Villar with 21 percent, Gibo Teodoro with 15 percent, Erap Estrada with 9 percent, Richard Gordon with 3 percent and Bro. Eddie Villanueva with .6 percent.

For the vice presidential race, top five were Mar Roxas with 34 percent, Loren Legarda with 29 percent, Jojo Binay with 13 percent, Bayani Fernando with 9 percent and Edu Manzano with 8 percent.

The survey also asked respondents about the poll automation and most responded that while they have seen, heard or read about it in radio, television and newspapers they have little or no knowledge at all on how to vote in poll automation and they largely do not trust or they do not know at all the automated polls.  (Cha Monforte/Rural Urban News)
