Braulio E. Dujali Mayor Lolita Moral has said that the protection dike along the river that straddles in the poblacion has been strengthened and fortified with thousands of sandbags with the help of Dapecol colonos.
“With the sandbagging of the protection dike, the riverbank is no longer washed out and eroded by high rivers during continuous rains and we were recently not much hit by floods unlike before,” she said.
BE Dujali town consisting of five barangays lies in an interior plain in mid section surrounded by barangay areas of Carmen, Sto. Tomas, Panabo City and Tagum City, and in the past it was perennially flooded especially during longer rainy days.
She said that some 35 Dapecol colonos help in the fortification project for the riverbank last November and December through the P2-million congressional fund of District 2 Congressman Anton Lagdameo.
The sandbags and cement formed the main fill to the eroded portions of the about 3-kilometer protection dike that appears to block high surging river waters from entering the low-lying poblacion.
Mayor Moral said that for this year in her second term she would be preoccupied in embarking various infrastructure projects funded by her municipality’s P40-million Internal Revenue Allotment and P8-million local income source such as farm-to-market roads, relocation site, eco park development and public market improvement projects.
On the other hand, Vice Mayor Samuel Pacres said in separate interview that the municipal sanggunian has been fully supporting the mayor with various pieces of legislations such as the already approved Comprehensive Development Plan, Annual Investment Plan, revised local revenue code and budget-related ordinances.
“We have good relationship with the mayor and our basis of unity is the good of our people,” he said.
Pacres along with three councilors won in the last May 2010 polls under the banner of the Liberal Party backed up by Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario. Moral ran for her first reelection under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD led by Cong. Lagdameo. (cha monforte)
