NEWS: Congressman Way Kurat anchors radio station to rebut charges

Compostela Valley Congressman Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora of District 1 is now an anchor of his paid blocktime radio program over DXPA FM station based in Nabunturan to rebut charges and accusations hurled against him and her daughter Boardmember Maria Carmen Zamora-Apsay.

Zamora is an outgoing three-termer congressman while Apsay is running for congresswoman under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

In his one-hour radio program “Sayri Maning” 6:00 to 7:00 A.M. every Tuesday and Thursday starting two weeks ago, he rebutted accusations on his alleged failed promises to to give projects to barangays in the district, his alleged non-performance as a lawmaker and personal enrichment while in public office.

At one time last week, he belied accusation but admitted that he owned not four but only three cockpits in the first district while calling the attention of Liberal Party congressional standard-bearer Atty. Jaime “Jun” Lopoz to stick to the facts.

The congressman is currently developing a “modern, state-of-the-art” cockpit in a rather sprawling area in Barangay Sta. Maria, near the poblacion of the capital town of Nabunturan .

The congressman’s cockfighting arena is reportedly having pay-per-view cockfights viewed over cable TV and hantak gambling to bet on to compliment with his Sunday and derby cockfights while it has cottages and hotel features with well-manicured lawns positioning to function as a new rest and recreation facility in town.

Sources said the congressman has already held many cockfighting derbies in his Nabunturan cockpit arena with seven-digit top prize last year while it is yet being developed “ala Las Vegas style” according to opposing political pundits.

The last-termer congressman answered charges raised by a small Bisayan newspaper named Birada circulated in barangays of his district and even enlisted barangay captains whom he made as guests in his radio program to answer issues leveled against him which dragged his daughter into the scene.

While hitting much Atty. Lopoz, the congressman also made side remarks with unhealthy douses of negative issues against the controversial ex-police officer Cesar Mancao, candidate of Aksyon Demokratiko Party.

In last Thursday airing of his program, at one time Cong. Zamora poked fun to Mancao saying the latter would win as congressman in Bohol since in his 2010 calendar Mancao posed with Cesar Montano, who is running for governor in Bohol province.

The congressman, other sources said, started his radio program closely after the latest survey “conducted by Governor Chiongkee Uy” bared that Apsay was already closely trailed by Lopoz by 3-percent margin only.

“Maricar got 30 percent rating, Lopoz has 27 percent while Mancao has only 7 percent in the survey,” the sources said. (Cha Monforte/Rural Urban News)

NEWS: Ex-Gov. Joecab girds to run vs. Cong. Amatong

ATTY. JUN LOPOZ , Liberal Party District 1 Chairman- Compostela Valley

Ex-Governor Jose “Joecab” Cab allero is veering towards running for the 2nd district congressional post against first-termer Congressman Rommel “Bobong” Amatong even as yesterday the former Compostela Valley governor still insisted he has still an “either for governor or for congressman” option.
Pundits have speculated that when Caballero recently took his oath as the 2nd district chairman of the Liberal Party in the province and has been reportedly forming a lineup of candidates for boardmembers is signalling he would be taking the congressional run option.
Meanwhile, Atty. Jaime “Jun” Lopoz Jr, who is running for congressman, also took oath the other day in LP Manila headquarters as the first district chairman of LP in the province debunking reports that controversail ex-police officer Cesar Mancao, also a congressional candidate, got the district’s LP chairmanship.
Boardmember Maricar Apsay, daughter of last-termer Cong. Manuel “Way Kurat” Zamora, is also running for congress.
Last Sunday Mancao along with actor Cesar Montano made a motorcade of at least 50 vehicles across five towns in the first district except the highland Maragusan. The motorcade bannered yellow color as Mancao and his supporters wore yellow shirts with LP logo and letters and face of presidential candidate Senator Noynoy Aquino.
Reports said that Mancao’s membership application to LPwas junked by the party’s national directorate as he was accordingly “close to the Arroyos”.
Caballero’s final filing of candidacy for congressman would leave reelectionist Governor Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy unopposed in the forthcoming 2010 election given the absence of good gubernatorial material except Caballero.
Uy has remained to stick with Lakas-Kampi-CMD after Sunday’s affirmative vote of partymates for Lakas and its standard-bearer Gilbert Teodoro during an intense four-hour close-door political caucus marred by a walk-out of Cong Amatong who rooted for Teodoro than Senator Manny Villar, whom sources said was first preferred by Uy.
