P280-M Metro Gaisano rises up, races for Tagum fiesta soft opening

AUG 19- AUG 25, 2010

Good news: new mall will have 3-4 cinemas

By Cha Monforte, Rural Urban News

The Metro Gaisano mall in the hub along the national highway in Tagum City is seemingly rushed with the 24-hour construction activities going on and this is to race on what a city building official bared as its slated “soft opening” in time with the parochial feast of the Christ the King or the city’s fiesta on November 21.

City building officer Engr. Mario Campaner bared in an interview with the Valley & City Chronicle that based on the documents submitted by a Gaisano company to the city government particularly to his office Metro Gaisano has total cost of P280 million and it is expected to be completed by June 2011.

Metro Gaisano, once completed, would stand to be the biggest mall that the city would have, he said.

He described the building as awesomely wonderful and modern for Tagumenyos and other populace from outside the city to enjoy and benefit.

“Per technical plans and construction schedule, in time with our fiesta it will already have its soft opening in the first level only, so that the company seems to intend to start doing business already while completing the rest of the three-level building,” Engr. Campaner said.

He further bared that the mall will have “3 to 4 cinema facilities” in the upper level.

The mall is planned to have two three-level buildings connected by an overpass above the Briz street. The building, shorter in length to the main building, is near to commercial spaces adjacent to the NCCC Mall.

Late last year the Grand Gaisano mall opened up. Metro Gaisano will be the 4th Gaisano mall in the city following the Grand Gaisano, Gaisano Quirante and Gaisano Center along Pioneer Street.

The city has other bigger malls that include NCCC Mall, Central Warehouse Club and Unitop.

Metro Gaisano is another mall facility serving a city that has fast growing population and burgeoning middle class. More than that, the birth of the biggest mall must have been anchored on the reason that the city has long been the sub-regional service centre that effectively services the provinces of the carved-out Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental and even Agusan del Sur’s southern towns.

With the addition of the mall with modern cinemas, Tagum City will now be at par with other bigger cities in Mindanao.

In the same interview, the building officer also said that his office has already sent notice to the mall’s construction engineers directing them to put up warning signs along the road and take necessary precautions on the loading and unloading of their cargo vehicles to avoid road accidents with the passing motorists.
